Nationwide Optum/Change Healthcare Cyberattack

We have been informed by our Managed Care Partners of the ongoing network interruption issue with Optum/Change Healthcare related to a cybersecurity issue and its resulting decision to disconnect its systems while it resolves the issue. Many of our Managed Care Partners connect with Optum/Change Healthcare in different ways and have taken appropriate measures to protect their own systems from security breaches. We are watching this situation very closely and will continue to monitor it to ensure operational security.

NC Medicaid is focused on ensuring access to care for our beneficiaries, including access to prescription medications. If a pharmacy provider gets a host processing error message from the system, they have the option to fill or partially fill the prescription and submit the claim when the system is operational. Once electronic claims submission functionality resumes, our Managed Care Partners will process all claims received as quickly as possible within agreed-upon timelines.

We encourage pharmacy providers to continue to take care of their patients during the system outage. Consider providing patients with an emergency supply, filing manual claims, or applying any other method to limit any barriers to patient care.

Any questions please contact the appropriate Managed Care Plan Call Center or NCTracks Call Center.
