A Message from NCTracks on Behalf of NC Medicaid NCDHHS Names Melanie Bush Deputy Secretary of NC Medicaid
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is pleased to share that Melanie Bush has been named the next Deputy Secretary of Medicaid for the NCDHHS Division of Health Benefits. While her appointment remains contingent upon confirmation by the North Carolina General Assembly, Deputy Secretary Bush will continue to lead North Carolina’s Medicaid program, which now serves more than 3 million people statewide.
Deputy Secretary Bush previously served as Assistant Secretary and Chief Operating Officer for NC Medicaid, where she helped lead managed care transformation, the unwinding of continuous coverage for the COVID-19 public health emergency, and Medicaid expansion that has extended care to more than 700,000 additional North Carolinians.
In the department’s press announcement, NCDHHS Secretary Dev Sangvai shared his gratitude for her leadership and commitment to improving the health and well-being of every North Carolinian.
As Medicaid continues to evolve amid changing federal requirements, including those in H.R.1, NCDHHS remains focused on ensuring access, minimizing disruptions, and supporting our partners through transitions.
Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to North Carolina communities.
