New NC Medicaid toolkit: Help Your Community Know What’s Next

New rules are coming for NC Medicaid, and community organizations can play an important role in helping people know what’s changing and what they can do now to prepare. 

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has released the Know What’s Next toolkit with ready-to-use materials in English and Spanish. The toolkit includes flyers, social media posts, a rack card and wallet card designed to help people learn about the changes and take steps now to protect their health coverage.

How you can help 

Use the materials in the places and ways that work best for the people you serve: 

  • Post flyers in waiting rooms, community spaces, break rooms and other high-traffic locations. Hand them out in our community. 
  • Display rack cards where people can pick them up and take them home. 
  • Hand out wallet cards at appointments, events and other one-on-one interactions so people have key information to keep with them. 
  • Share the social media posts through your organization’s channels and networks. 
  • Talk with people about the changes and encourage them to visit Medicaid.nc.gov/changes or contact their local Department of Social Services (DSS) to find out what the new rules mean for them. 

What people can do now 

Encourage adults with Medicaid who are 19 through 64 without a disability to: 

  1. See if the work or activity rules apply to them. Tell them to visit Medicaid.nc.gov/changes or contact their local DSS.
  2. Make sure their local DSS has their correct address and phone number.
  3. Respond to any letters as soon as they get them.
  4. Start saving important papers. Tell them to keep things like pay stubs, school records and volunteer logs, benefit letters or medical records. 
  5. Create an enhanced ePASS account if they do not already have one. People can use it to upload documents to show proof of work, school or volunteer activities.
