Reminder: How to Add Another Payer to a Claim

Providers who submit claims to NCTracks for Medicaid recipients who have other insurance coverage must include the other payer information on the claim. Instructions are on the NCTracks Provider Portal Provider User Guides and Training page under the heading “Claim Submission.” The “How to Indicate Other Payer Details on a Claim in NCTracks and Batch Submissions” User Guide provides step-by-step instructions for submitting claims with other payers using the secure NCTracks Provider Portal and by X12 837 batch submission.

The most common error made by providers when including other payer details on a claim is entering the 3-digit third party insurance identification code, which is not necessary. Providers are only required to select one of the filing indicators. Although there is no place to enter the code in NCTracks, some providers will put it in another field, resulting in a delay in processing the claim.

Providers are encouraged to follow the User Guide to facilitate approval of their claims for recipients with other insurance.
