Attention: Private Duty Nursing Providers Change in PDN Prior Approval Submission

On December 3, 2017, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services will change the entry of prior approval (PA) requests for Private Duty Nursing (PDN) in the NCTracks provider portal. Providers will no longer be required to submit the 'Hours of PDN Requested Per Day' and will instead enter a new ‘Requested Begin Date’ field, from which the ‘Requested End Date’ field will be calculated as 180 days from the begin date. (The begin and end dates were previously determined by NCTracks based on the submission date of the PA request.)

This change is effective for PDN PA requests submitted in the NCTracks provider portal beginning December 3, 2017. No action is required for previously submitted PDN PA requests.

Note: The new data validations implemented in NCTracks on October 29, 2017, will use the PDN PA requested begin date entered by the provider, rather than the submission date. (Refer to the October 2, 2017 announcement for additional information.)

A new job aid, PA333 Prior Approval: Private Duty Nursing, is being created to explain the change in PDN PA submission. An announcement will be posted when the job aid is available in SkillPort. Refer to the Provider Training page of the public Provider Portal for specific instructions on how to use SkillPort. The Provider Training page also includes a quick reference regarding Java, which is required for the use of SkillPort.

For additional information on Private Duty Nursing, refer to the PDN page on the DMA website or call 919-855-4380.
