A Message from NCTracks on Behalf of NC Medicaid Medicaid Expansion Will Go-Live on Dec. 1, 2023

At last Medicaid expansion is finally assured in North Carolina. Last week, the General Assembly passed a final budget that included final authority to close the coverage gap and implement Medicaid expansion. Gov. Cooper has announced he will let it become law without his signature meaning we are now able to set a date to launch Medicaid expansion and enable access to care for 600,000 North Carolinians. Medicaid expansion will go-live on December 1, 2023.

This is a game changer for the more than 600,000 people gaining access to quality care and is the most significant investment in the health of our state in decades. Medicaid expansion represents billions of dollars of investment each year that helps keep doors open to clinics, facilities and providers in rural communities- all of whom keep people well. Thank you to the many partners that have helped make this life-saving investment a reality.

The team at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has been working closely with implementation partners since the initial passage of Medicaid expansion in March. With a launch date now certain, NCDHHS will ramp up communications to beneficiaries and partners along with other launch activities. Thank you to the many collaborators who have been working side-by-side with the Department on expansion. NCDHHS appreciates the leadership of Gov. Cooper and the North Carolina General Assembly for securing the passage of Medicaid expansion.
