New Display Message for Optical Service Inquiries

Living arrangements can impact beneficiaries’ eligibility for some Medicaid services. Currently, when a provider performs an optical refraction history confirmation or eyeglass service history inquiry in the NCTracks provider portal, the system does not confirm the recipient’s living arrangement. This has allowed the system to provide a refraction history confirmation or eyeglass service history results for recipients who are not eligible for optical services.

Effective July 30, 2023, NCTracks will implement improvements that will allow the system to validate living arrangements and display a message to inform providers of a recipient’s ineligibility for optical services based on the living arrangement status. When providers perform an optical refraction history confirmation or eyeglass service history inquiry for a recipient who is not eligible for services based on current living arrangements, the following message will be displayed: “OPTICAL SERVICES ARE NOT COVERED FOR RECIPIENT’S ELIGIBILITY CATEGORY.”
