A Message from NCTracks on Behalf of NC Medicaid Medicaid Expansion 2-year Anniversary
On December 1, we celebrate two years of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina. In that time, more than 690,000 people have gained healthcare coverage – working parents, caregivers, individuals with chronic conditions, and many who had long been stuck in the coverage gap. Expansion has made life-saving care possible for thousands, strengthened rural communities, supported working families, and bolstered essential industries such as child care, small businesses, and restaurants across the state.
You have played a critical role in this progress. Thank you for helping transform access to care for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians.
We also recognize the challenges this year has brought. Federal changes and the NC General Assembly’s failure to fund what Medicaid will cost this year have created pressures that threaten the stability of the program we have built together. While expansion is federally funded, inadequate Medicaid funding affects health care statewide.
There is more work ahead. And we hope you will continue to share your stories with policymakers and the impact of their shortfall. As our partner in promoting health and well-being for North Carolinians, we want to express our gratitude and share resources to support you. The Governor’s office will be sharing more information on Monday about this incredible milestone, including the benefits that two years of Medicaid expansion has brought to our state – we hope you will join us in spreading the good news.
