NC Medicaid Temporary Flexibilities Due to Hurricane Erin

Governor Josh Stein issued Executive Order No. 20 on Aug. 19, 2025, declaring a State of Emergency in response to Hurricane Erin. As a result, NC Medicaid temporary flexibilities are in effect from Aug. 19 – Sept. 2, 2025 (unless otherwise extended by NCDHHS). These flexibilities apply to both NC Medicaid Direct and NC Medicaid Managed Care. 

Temporary Flexibilities include: 

Medication Prior Authorization Overrides – Pharmacy providers may override prior authorization requirements to ensure beneficiaries have access to needed medications. 

Early Prescription Refill Overrides – Beneficiaries may obtain early refills to prevent disruptions in medication access during the storm.
